Hello
and welcome to Barb's Place, my little homepage about my family and homeschooling.
I have been teaching my children at home for 8 years. My children are 16,
9, and 5. Enric
, my oldest son and I started when he was in the 4th grade. I remember
in those days how alone we felt in the world of homeschooling, but our
reasons were clear. Individual attention, learning at his own speed, and
dissatisfaction with the public and private schools in our area were all
the incentives we needed to give school at home a try! I think we worked
that first year the hardest in our whole lives, as everything at first
was so new to us!
When
it came time to teach my son Miquel
it seemed all new and scary all over again. Even though I had the experience
of teaching his older brother, starting Miquel in kindergarten was a scary
thought to me, as Miquel woud come to me a 'clean slate' whereas his brother
had already attended school until the third grade.
I
approach teaching my daughter, Laura
, without the fears and inexperience of the first two, and simply
just get to enjoy and appreciate the rewards that homeschooling provides
us parents.
At
times I also teach a foreign language (Spanish) to other homeschoolers
on a weekly basis! I hope to share with any and all from my experiences
and gladly take any suggestions from others out there, as I still have
more to learn about this world of homeschooling!
